videos
you tube is a great resource for wasting time and finding terrible home videos. but i love searching for live band videos. so i have "favorited" a lot of videos and was searching through them all last night. these three stuck out with the fact that i think they are all really awesome performances but each one with a different vibe. from the giant crowd at reading fest to anabandoned building to the small crowd and theo hilton using a marker as a capo. the best is being able to watch videos in HD now too.
arcade fire "wake up"
fleet foxes "blue ridge mountains"
nana grizol "voices echo down the hall"

bikes
upon a recent check of their online store i discovered that urban outfitters now sells "custom" bikes.
let the richmond bike kid outrage begin.
now in the past few years fixed gears have risen to the top in the hipster circles, and riding without breaks ups your cool points. and im sure there will be a few people with no interest buying these bikes to help their social climb. but ill add a few of my thoughts to this discussion
should other bike enthusiasts really be mad about bikes becoming hip? i would much rather more people be riding bikes than driving cars. i dont think we should want anyone to stay away from a better lifestyle choice even if they are doing it to be cool.
but i will also say if urban is going to dictate what is trendy i think it is also their responsibility to promote saftey. maybe sell some hip bike helmets while they are at it yeah?

camp
i am finding it difficult to summarize my experience at Camp Firebelly in a blog post.
all i can say is that i know the past two weeks have changed my life greatly and i am so appreciative of that.
i am so motivated now for the little time i have left in richmond to refine my portfolio and pack my apartment for the next step i am taking in life.

purge
after the chaos of graduation and still not knowing what is really instore for my life. (except camp firebelly june 22 -july 1) i felt that its only fitting to start cleaning out the unnecessary from my life.
ok i admit it....i have a lot of...stuff.
ive always held on to things for too long in fear that there may be that one moment in time where i will need something so totally random that if i threw it out i would be distraught. slowly over the years i had gotten over this habit. but maybe it returned? i just cleaned off my bookshelf. a simple task at first but now i have so much trash to take out, things to sell/give away. it feels so good though. just looking over and seeing a few shelves of stuff instead of the mess it was before. i can totally be ok with not having so many things anymore (sadly clothes are still a different story).

fun things
now that school doesnt eat away my time and creative energy i have been able to enjoy some other hobbies
painting being one
tim snapped this of me the other day
i hate my paintings and most of the time cover them up and start new ones
we'll see what happens to this one
also, i really love making mix cds for friends
ive made a few for my best friend for special occasions and to catch her up on all the music i have been diggin
the best part is just making the packaging
shes going away for the summer again to colorado and i had a tough time just picking one song by the bands i was thinking about so i went with a two disk set each cd having a different song by the same band
i went all out made a special case for them and it was fun. i'll try to photograph my other ones sometime
if you want a mix let me know, i really have a lot of fun making these!

words
i am not a huge fan of posting lyrics everywhere
but honestly i love these lines by matty pop chart
"and if everyone does it, well everyone does everything
and if that's why you stop, then you'll never do anything"

-matty pop chart on repeat
-painting/drawing
-playing the ukulele
-being disconnected from everything
-not having Coca Cola cravings (i'm giving it up)

procrastination
I'm posting here instead of printing right now.
I am pretty much ready to print a handful of my work so I can begin trimming and binding.
But, part of me is so afraid to begin printing. I don't want to run out of ink or paper.
When I think about how much I have spent on printing in my three years in Graphic Design I want to cry.
I am also afraid of doing all this printing then finding a mistake. I think I have been looking at this stuff for way too long. I just want to have it done and not look at it anymore on screen.
Next week I am submitting a poster for an AIGA competition and sending in my application to Camp Firebelly. After all of that I just want to focus on the presentation aspect of my work. My box is almost done, I have selected my envelope color (prepare for that) and the paper to print my resumé on.

uke!
so i have been trying this thing lately in my life where if there is something i want to do i just do it instead of always talking myself out of it.
one of the things that came up lately was learning an instrument. i have never played music but its been something i always regretted. so i went out the other day and bought myself a ukulele. its not the nicest one but will suffice for learning.
i was partially inspired to do this by hellogoodbye who recently released a three sond demo ep titled "the ukulele recordings"
im glad i decided to just do this. and maybe with enough practice i will get pretty good at playing this really cute instrument!

back in the us
getting away was nice.
i think that was the most amazing trip i will ever have in my life.
but now its back to reality, i have a lot of work to get done.
first up, my portfolio. i am refining my guidebook from fall semester junior year.
im keeping the images but giving them some breathing room and getting rid of my typographic soup. yey for Akzidenz Grotesk! but theres still so much to do.
tomorrow its on to my magazine spreads which have always given me trouble. but i finally like the direction they are headed. ill be doing some water colors and scanning and fixing rags!
